This club was started in 1996 by Sallyann Brown when she saw a need to draw local fly fishers together. We currently have around fifty active members from the Northwest Arkansas area. We are a Federation of Fly Fishers associate club and are members of the Southern Council. We meet on the third Monday of each month at Jim’s Razorback Pizza in Springdale on Highway 412 (1528 West Sunset). Our meetings are a social hour starting at 6:00pm and meeting starting at 7:00pm. We have had beginning fly casting and fly tying classes. We have had three rod building classes and there were several very nice custom rods that came out of these clinics.

We have an on-the-water fishing outing once a month. And whenever we can talk someone else into going. We have been trout fishing on the tail waters of Beaver, Bull Shoals, Norfork and Mountain Fork. We have had smallmouth trips to Lee’s Creek, Crooked Creek, Sugar Creek and King’s River. Our white bass trips to War Eagle, Richland Creek and White River are legendary. We go largemouth bass fishing at Lake Leatherwood, bream fishing at Lake Fayetteville.

Next meeting will be on May 18, 2009.

We will be discussing the happenings from the Smallmouth Rendezvous that a few of the club members will be attending in Talequah, OK. Also, we will be sharing trip reports from our White Bass outing last weekend. Feel free to join us, it is extremely casual and very entertaining.

Next meeting is September 21st at 6pm. Mr. Ron Duncan, Commisioner from the AGFC will be speaking at this meeting. This will be a good meeting as the subject will no doubt be the proposed changes to the Norfork Cathc & Release Area. There are alot of emotions tied up in this and Mr Duncan has been nice enough to come and speak to us about it. Here is a little information about Mr Duncan from the AGFC website:

Governor Mike Beebe named Ron Duncan of Springdale as his most recent appointment to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Duncan replaces Sonny Varnell of St. Paul, whose term had expired.

Duncan is a devoted outdoorsman and educator. Duncan started a fishing club in 1982 at Springdale Central Junior High School, where he was a civics teacher. Based on the simple idea of introducing kids to fishing, the club inspired a national initiative known as the “Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs” program. That program has produced thousands of similar clubs nationwide. HOFNOD, as the program is known, is also administered by AGFC to numerous

Inducted into the Arkansas Outdoor Hall of Fame in 2004, Duncan has twice been honored as the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society Man of the Year and was the National Wildlife Federation Educator of the Year in 1999. Through the fishing clubs he’s championed, Duncan has worked closely with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s education and fisheries divisions.

A graduate of the University of Arkansas, Duncan joined the Springdale School District in 1974. He remains with the district today as a student counselor. Duncan’s term on the commission will expire on July 1, 2015.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Look forward to seeing you guys there.
