TIGHT LINES, YA'LL "There he stands, draped in more equipment than a telephone lineman, trying to outwit an organism with a brain no bigger than a breadcrumb, and getting licked in the process." - Paul O’Neil
Randall Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 that looks pretty deadly. i might be tempted to play with the colors though. i'm a huge fan of dark gray swimming minnows, so i have some ideas for it. charlie, i definitely know what you're talking about with the dusk fishing. my buddies had to drag me away from the water so we could get the ones we kept filleted and cooked. feeling the soft hits definitely is the reason i caught as many as i did last summer. it'll be interesting to see if i can pick them up on the fly rod. Cute animals taste better.
SilverMallard Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Click here for Crappie Candy pattern... Dangit, Terry! I thought I was the only guy around here who tied that pattern. Members Charley Hart Posted March 28, 2007 Members Posted March 28, 2007 I agree a small jig works well... I have found this time of the year find a steep bank where the water drops off quickly. Cast in a diagonal cast a 1/100-1/80 ounce jig but with no float! Strip it in in slow 1 foot strips. Watch for any hesitation in line or if you feel a leaf like tug you got one. Just drag them in. No giant hook set needed as it tends to pull the jig out. I have discovered that crappie of all sizes will hit the small jigs.
Kayser Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Caught a bunch of nice black crappie on a #12 2x long BH Fox Squirrel Nymph. Small Strips/ Slow retrieve. Shallow water around a rock reef around outer edge of emerging water primrose. End Transmission. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
drew03cmc Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Has anyone else tried streamers? I caught a 13" and 2 6" white crappie today from the pond around the corner on a #8 Black Nose Dace and using short fast strips on a steady retrieve. They would just barely tap the fly and you had to watch the end of your line to get the strikes, but when you did, they fought almost like a bull gill! It was fun. On top of crappie, you will catch bluegill, bass, and any other species swimming in the lake, river or pond you are fishing. Andy
Randall Posted April 18, 2007 Author Posted April 18, 2007 i do well on clousers... just about everything will hit one of those. Cute animals taste better.
