Im sure everyone knows this but you have to cut the red meat out of the whites and hybrids, that is where the oil glands are located and what makes the fish taste strong. Also try soaking the fish in sprite or mountain dew it takes all the fishy taste out.

Sorry to say, there is no access to piney from road really that i know of. someone else might know on hear, but Pineys is about a mile and half i think south of cape fair marina. And with the water up as it is, it would be a huge task to fish for them from the bank.

Way to go Jason!

Those days are alot of fun. You wouldn't have been able to pull me off the water at the end of the day-- in that situation I would have kept catching them (and releasing... after my limit, of course) 'til my arms fell off... to make up for those days when the bite is slow. ;)

Glad to hear of your great success. Keep it up.

Yep, I've cut the red meat out, and I've soaked filets in everything everyone's ever told me - including Sprite, salt water, beer, and I don't know what-all. I think someone even told me to soak 'em in Dr. Pepper once, so we tried that. It helps, but not enough for me - those big whites still taste like an anchovy boat smells after it's been out in the sun for a few days.

I think the real problem is that I've spoiled myself with lots of crappie and walleye filets.

Jessary - Thanks for your report that led my partner and I to a great trip today!

Everything you said about the white bass was right. We found lots of them in both of the coves you mention, as well as in the mouth of every cove between there and Cape Fair. I don't much like to fish with a jigging spoon, so we caught all ours on big Roostertails. We'd troll until we located a bunch and then stop and throw to them. Then, when they quit biting in that spot we'd troll until we found another bunch. We got white bass limits but we didn't catch near the numbers you did because we got distracted - we found crappie.

We found 12"-14" crappie with white 2" Swimmin' Minnows on the standing timber all around there, and clear back to Cape Fair too. Some were also on the banks near brush. They're not on nests and I think they're on brush near nesting areas, post spawn. We didn't quite catch crappie limits, but close.

Added to that were quite a few Kentucky bass mostly 13"-14" caught and released while Roostertailin' for white bass, and 10 big black perch caught near the banks while crappie fishing. Thanks again, we had a ball!

Anytime Sam, glad i can contribute to anyone catching fish. I pick up so much on here, i try to do what i can to repay.

By the way, went this evening. A buddy wanted to go. started raining as we got there. toke bout 20 min to find a big school, and then it was on. Just before that big storm rolled over us, we were catching them as fast as we could get out. We were even making short casts so we could get them in the boat faster. When the storm finally hit us hard and wind switched, everything died. we probably caught 50 in an hour and 15 min. its still so fast its silly when u find them feeding.

And yes we had a fun boat ride back, 3 foot swells, and stinging rain. But, we couldnt get the grins off of our faces.

Glad to hear about the crappie, ill try for them next time.
