Can someone explain these 0, 00, and 000 line weight rods I'm seeing? Are they a lighter line than a one weight? What is the proper application for these rods? I can see maybe using something that light in like crane creek or somewhere like that, but I'd imagine that the flies used with such a rod would have to be really small.

The 0wt line is a light 1wt, meaning it is at the bottom of the grain ratings for 1wt. The 00 wt line is actually about a 48 grain line, and the 000 is lighter yet. You can cast #14 dries, nymphs, etc on any of those without issue, and they can land some hefty fish! Many folks will tell you to use a click pawl reel on these sticks, but IMO, a SMOOTH disc drag reel is indispensible for fishing these rods with 4# and lighter tippet.

They arent bad out to 30-40' or so, if you have no wind to deal with...A good friend uses a Sage 000 one alot on the little jump across wild trout creeks, and Norm Crisp uses an Orvis 1 weight for small dry flies (trico's, BWO, small caddis) on the Current alot. Not a general purpose rod by any means, but a fun toy for short range dry fly applications, small nymphs, and buggers. Cheers.
