Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 19, 2009 Root Admin Posted May 19, 2009 It's all changed. This am they are running only 2 units and not all of 2. Flow is way down and level here is down 5 feet. Now- gravel bars from Short Creek up to the dam will come into play. Better get a map here on OA or stop in at Lilleys and get a map and suggestions. New this may change again by the weekend- there's NO WAY to tell. But this am it's changed and word is it will stay this way thru Friday.
twosets Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Hey Kramr The trick is to get your bait or fly down to the bottom, you do not want to slow your drift, you want your lure to move at the same speed as everything else. You need to use just enough weight to bounce off the bottom but not too much to get hungup all the time. Half a crawler on a drift rig down stream from Fall creek is a good way to go to catch fish for a newbe. Also, the cooper creek boat ramp is good. A guy showed me last year how to angle your trailer downstream to make the operation easier in high current. Good luck and let us know how you do. George "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
twosets Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Also If you are into flyfishing, above fall creek ther are several places where you can safely tie up in the slack water below an island (lookout for one) if you are tired of fighting the current and want to try something different. bigredbirdfan Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 If the water level is back up. And you want to tie up to not constantly fight the current you will see some folks who tie up to trees along the shoreline. This prevents the dangerous condition of pulling your boat under. Fish on the bottom particularly if no cloud cover.

George Thanks for the trailer angling tip, seems so common sensible that I probably wouldn't have thought of it. Ok, since were talking newbie stuff, what's a good hook size? Only previous trout fishing was at the state parks where we use size 12 - 14.

Phil, I just checked the automated number and it's now running 4 units. I'm assuming that more than 2 units. Guessing it's the number of gaits open. What happened since this morning, has it been raining a lot or are they just trying to drain more water out of TR?
twosets Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 No need to go that small, they may swallow those, I use #6 or #4 with a crawler on a drift rig with the 1/2 worm hooked thru the middle hanging off both ends. usually hook them in the mouth. Small line is important 2 or 4 lb test. If they swallow the hook either add it to your limit of 4 or cut the line and return it quickly. 2 or 4 refers to the number of units generating power, not floodgates. I never thought of the trailering thing either. You should stop at Lillys for fishing advice, or scottys if are all the way down by branson. Real nice people at both places. "This is not Nam. Generators flow cool water from down deep from Table Rock. Gates(bad) bring warmer water from the top. The only good line is a tight line
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 21, 2009 Root Admin Posted May 21, 2009 Not bad... have to differ. Our water is 45-46. That's cold even for trout. Surface temp on TR is in the 60's. Mix the two and you've got warmer water- better for trout. I'm telling you- I've caught my biggest trout on Taney during flood gates in May. BUT I doubt if it will happen. Table Rock is too low for flood gates regardless where Beaver is.
