Chris Tetrick Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I'm no expert on the subject of trot linning, but I'd use live bait. Such as blue-gillls or sun-fish. That way you have a shot at flatheads who like lively prey, or channels, which I think might bite on either alive or dead. Some local bait shops in Kimberling sell gold fish that seem to work well on the lines according to some guys--- Mid Lakes Guide Svc. Martin Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I use a 6/0 SS Limerick hook. (Not sure if I'm spelling Limerick correctly). They are made by Eagle Claw. I suppose you can still get them. I'm still using those hooks I bought years ago in a big box. Chris is right. Use the live bluegills. I hook them thru the back and try not to kill them. I'm mostly after Flatheads, and they like live bait. By the way.... Nicely done there Chris ! Nice bunch of fish.
Predator1 Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Thanks Chris, Thanks Martin. I will probalbly be down there this week or next weekend. Took the wife to Fellows Lake today and caught 39 Blue Gill and one two pound channel cat on worms from the garden. All the Blue gill were larger than my hands. Only one was a female with eggs and the rest were all mails full of sperm. Going back in the morning. Thanks again.
Martin Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Quick update: I'm still getting about one flathead per night. Nothing really huge, but nice solid fish. I did go a couple of nights without catching, but it was over the weekend and I had a little trouble catching bait since I got out late and the shoreline was all muddied up from boat traffic. I'll tell you, Friday afternoon by about 3:00, it looked like somebody opened a gate somewhere. Boat after boat after boat came in the creek and it didn't slow down until after dark. lol. It's definately summer !
Members SLIPPERY SI Posted June 5, 2009 Members Posted June 5, 2009 Nice Fish Bittle!!!...Did you by chance go to Reeds Spring High School? I believe you were a year or two behind me as I was class of '99 Tight lines, Simon
Predator1 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Just got done cleaning fish this morning. Actually, got in at 6am this morning. Caught 4 channels and one flat head last night. How deep to you guys set your limb lines. I caught some fish just below the water line and one with my limb line at the bottom in 20 feet of water. All fish were in the 5 lb range.
