Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 1, 2009 Root Admin Posted June 1, 2009 Had to get back out and fish the evening... hoping water would be off but they kicked on a unit about 6 I think. Got up to Lookout and the water had time to clear. Lots of crud on the surface all the way up. Typical this time of year for the algae to accumulate as the water warms when not generating. Babler reported surface temp was 63 today at noon. White jigs. One unit, sun dropped behind the trees and no fog. What could be better. Curtis's son Craig is here for a couple of days so he tagged along. He's never caught a brown and that was on his list. White was the best color to get his brown and he did catch it down by the narrows. Caught alot of rainbows on the drift- fished the bluff bank of course. This morning they liked it hopped sharply when worked and tonight was nothing different. Missed a bunch too. All these rainbows are fat and colorful. I had 2 pushing 19 inches and ever bit of 3 lbs. Craig had one that the colors popped (pic). I hooked a nice brown but he spit the jig back in my face. It was a crazy hour of fishing- similar to some of the other reports from the weekend. Great fishing!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 1, 2009 Author Root Admin Posted June 1, 2009 Oh yea- water is supposed to be off tomorrow am till 1 pm. Pretty sweet pattern- nice if they keep it up through the week!
Greg Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Hope you don't mind my adding my report to yours. My wife, son, and I got out Sun evening to the upper lake as well. We got there late afternoon and after about an hour of decent fishing they blew the horn. Dang!! But surprisingly the fishing actually got better. We switched to slightly bigger flies and I added a single shot to each rig. At that point we all started catching much bigger fish. We all caught several in the 16 to 20" range. Last fish of the day right at sunset my wife Tina caught maybe her biggest rainbow to date. An extremely fat and lively bow that was a solid 22". No pics I didn't have a camera much to the wife's dismay. I hope we are going to see some lesser generation. I have missed fishing Taneycomo. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 2, 2009 Author Root Admin Posted June 2, 2009 I went back out last evening for 40 minutes of fishing with my nephew Ryan. White jigs again but this time they weren't interested. Ryan caught 3 to my one. I woke up this morning at 5 am, heard the birds chirping and thought- I should go to the dam and fish. I did. Got in the water at 6 am. Started above outlet 2. First drift using a #14 silver gray scud and hooked up with a nice rainbow... NOT good news. I hate catching fishing on the first cast. First cast curse... and it was in full affect this morning. No other strikes for quite sometime. Changed flies- scuds, midge, soft hackles. Worked down to the big hole. Started connecting using a #18 green brassie soft hackle... I did say connecting. 25 strikes and one to the hand. It was a gorgeous morning to be out. No complaints. Slick conditions. Trout were midging all morning on a tiny cream midge- about a #26. If we'd had a breeze and chop on the water, it would have been way different.
