shaker Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 I have a friend that was given a bambo rod in a aluminum tube with S. Harris, Aspen Co. written on it. The top row of lettering on the rod is hard to make out but it looks like Harris Imperial at, next row down says "Battenkill, next row down 7' 3 3/8 oz next row the letters ga. D.G. (6). There is a number on the rod 48943 and two tips one has the same number and the other has 37519. The rod shows very little use and is in very good shape other than the top row of lettering, is this rod worth anything or where would you go to check it out. He lives in the Kansas City area. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Gavin Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Dunno...It sounds like it might be worth something but I'd need pictures.......I'm thinking Harris was the retailer that sold it, but the rod was probably built by someone else, and one of those tips does not belong with the rod...Battenkill 7' 3 3/8oz makes along with the serial numbers makes me think Orvis with a replacement tip, but I cant tell w/o pictures. Take some pictures of the rod...entire rod, reel seat & grip, ferrules, bag, tube, and any markings and post them up on the classic fly rod forum http://clarksclassicflyrodforum.yuku.com/ The folks there will be able to identify it with more certainty. Cheers.
Danoinark Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 I agree with Gavin. Sounds like Orvis might have made it for a private label. I have a feeler out to a couple of gents who probably know. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
shaker Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 Thanks for the help, we're going to get some pictures and post them like you said, neither of us know much about cameras but will give it a shot.
