Gone Fishing Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Went this past Friday for the first time. Fished from Rocky Branch to Starky. Caught 2 nice stripers on top that afternoon. Saturday morning we had a blast. Landed 3 on top. Broke off 3 also. Realized my regular bass gear wasn't heavy enough for these pigs. We fished all night also. I guess this is common as did many others. My question is does any body on here catch live bait at night. We had a rough time catching the shad. They would just go around the net. When we did get lucky and catch some bait it would not even get to the bottom without catching a fish. So do any of you have any suggestions on types of lights, nets, postions of each around boat etc.. Can't wait to do it again. Hooked for life.
Quillback Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Did you try using little bream for bait? I went on a guided trip a month ago and the guide used shad and bream, caught fish on both. I have a fitec super spreader cast net that works pretty well for shad (you can buy them at Cabela's). I might have to go out there and try myself.
rps Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Several of the guide boats put in at Holiday Island and cast nets in TR to catch their bait for striper fishing in Beaver. They wouldn't go to the extra work unless something about TR made it easier to catch bait.
Members coloradofly Posted June 23, 2009 Members Posted June 23, 2009 what is the method for catching stripers at night? (without using live bait) Will they continue to hit on top at night?
jay bird Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 I have caught them at night on top water during a full moon, but only twice. What I would like to try to using lights and then either lures or flies when they come in, but have never tried this and every one that I know that does this does it with live bait.
Mr. Ed Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Several of the guide boats put in at Holiday Island and cast nets in TR to catch their bait for striper fishing in Beaver. They wouldn't go to the extra work unless something about TR made it easier to catch bait. The guide I've used at Beaver catches all their shad at Grand Lake in OK. They told me its pretty tough to catch bait at Beaver... much easier at Grand.
