Has anyone ever fished in La Barque Creek in Young Conservation Area, in particular for smallmouth?

...While we are at it, how about the Maramec and Big Rivers in that area. Is there any decent wade fishing?

ive fished labarque creek...its so small i didnt even get bluegill although the missouri atlas and gazetter says that creek is excellent i rather doubt it unless you fish the very terminal end of the creek up from the maramek. I could be wrong here cus i fished in late summer, maybe its different in spring early summer.

the meramec and big do have wade fishing areas for smallmouth. as do numerous other creeks and rivers in missouri. if you realy want the lowdown id suggest a book called something like 200 missouri smallmouth adventure....or something like that im sure you could find it at Feather-craft fly shop near brentwood on manchester.

I had a feeling that might be the case with La Barque. If it's true, the MDC really needs to update their website. Thanks for the book tip. I think I might check it out.

i had an email from a lady when they first opened that and she said it really only has water in it when it rains.

I used to fish LaBarque quite often. It can really be a blast fishing for panfish and small spotted bass (lots of those) with a flyrod and small nymphs. I've caught largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass there, with spotted the most frequent, then largemouth, then smallmouth only occasionally. The biggest smallmouth I've caught there was about 12 inches, but most were much smaller. The most excited fishing I had at Young Conservation area was when I caught a bunch of minnows on my flyrod in the creek and then fished in the ponds on the property with them, they were full of pretty nice largemouth!
