Randall Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I broke the tip on the 7-weight I built about an inch and a half down. What would the best option be as far as repairing it? I was thinking something along the lines of gluing it then doing a thin coat of hard as nails then wrapping and finishing it... kind of like a splice I guess. Will that work or is there a better way? Cute animals taste better.
Randall Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 I was afraid of that. I really don't want to lose that last little bit because it'll take too much work to make the top section look right with the tip moved back that much. Oh well, it'll still work okay I guess. Cute animals taste better.
ness Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Yeah, I know what you mean. That's a pretty good-sized chunk off the end. You've probably thought of this if it applies, but some rod makers have lifetime warranties... John
Rolan Duffield Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Randall: I would just put a new tip on at the shortened rod tip as Ness indicated. You'll never miss 1.5" and you won't loose a nicklle's worth of rod action. Splicing it at that juncture will not help the rod action. Rolan
Randall Posted June 11, 2009 Author Posted June 11, 2009 I'm really more worried about cosmetics. I hate to have a goofy looking tip and when somebody asks I'm less than proud to say its one I built. As far as the warranty, its a Cabelas blank and they already told me there is no way I can get a new tip or even trade it in. Cute animals taste better.
Geoff Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 just get the same style tip that you had before to replace it. the 4-5 dollar tip is cheaper then a new rod "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
hoglaw Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 If you're that worried about the looks and spacing, just put on a new tip, remove the T-1 guide and split the difference between the tip and T-2. I'd imagine this is an option even if it's a travel rod and it should have no effect on action.
