Planning a couple days on this stretch next week and have never floated it before. An earlier post stated that there were lots of downed trees from May storm. Have these been cleared out or is it tricky floating? Are there lots of gravel bars for camping? Is the trout fishing good? Any suggestions appreciated.

Its pretty good from Welch to Akers, but between Cedar and Welch the fishing can be spotty. They usually don't stock the area between Cedars and Welch during mid summer because of warm temps, although they probably are still stocking now. Below Welch, the water is colder, and they stock all year long.

Be sure to really concentrate on the area near the mouth of Welch Spring. Lots a trout there.

Worms, powerbait, corn and minnows all work, if your looking to bait fish. Mepps spinners are also good.

Good luck

Is there a good campsite/gravel bar at Welch? Isn't that the place where the old buildings still remain from the early 20th century from the doctor that built a place for tuberculosis/asthma patients to recover? Thanks the advice!!

The reason they don't stock Cedar to Welch via the river during the summer is because it gets too low for their stocking boat. They stock this stretch at driveable access points when it's too low.

Yes, that's where the old asthma/tb hospital is. I'm sure you could find a campsite near there. Although, people can walk to it and I prefer camping on a gravel bar that folks can't walk or drive into my camping area. You may be alright during the week though.
