Members JONBOY Posted June 15, 2009 Members Posted June 15, 2009 So I am wondering what kind and poundage of line people use for trout. It can be for spinning rod or fly rod. I use 2lb P-line for both rods in clear water, but I know I wouldn't be able to land a 6 lb trout on that too easily. Also I know that night fishing it doesn't really matter because they can't see the line at all really. Just curious, if I can use heavier stuff or not. Thanks in advance for the input. Novice Fly fisher.
Geoff Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 2lb and we did catch some on the 4lb floro before "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."

ozarkgunner Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I use 2 or 4.Some times I'll use 6 pound with 2 pound Leader. one shotone shot 4lb. vanish or anything else with a 4lb. leader. Fly fishing I use 6X tippets. Angler At Law
Fishmeister Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Depends, trout parks and/or clear water 2# green maxima, stained probably 4#. Night time on Taney I use 6-8# leader on my fly rod, I generally throw streamers at night.
Members bigdub Posted June 15, 2009 Members Posted June 15, 2009 I also use 4# Vanish and if Iam struggling with bites I'll tie one some 6 or 7X tippet for a leader!! Normally fish 6X exculsively on the flyrod unless its extremely clear water and sunny then 7X, but 90% of the time its 4# and 6X for me!! A fool with a plan is always better than a genius with NO PLAN!!!!

Members JONBOY Posted June 16, 2009 Author Members Posted June 16, 2009 Thanks again for the responses. So as I can see everybody else also pretty much uses 2lbs test which is good news for me!! Novice Fly fisher.
KCRIVERRAT Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Yep... most of my trout fishing has been outside of the park at Roaring River the last few years. 2# is all I have used, but I haven't hooked in to a monster. Biggest was a 17' brown. Like I've said before... take my four back home to the smoker! HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
