Members Leitsout Posted June 19, 2009 Members Posted June 19, 2009 I'm interested in purchasing my first custom fly rod. Does anyone have any recommendations on who or where to go?

Our own OAF'er Murdoc makes a dandy fly rod. Check them out here http://rdpflyrods.com/ Also Clay Goforth from the board here makes a design your own one here https://www.g2rods.com/ Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Bman Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Don't know your price range. Charlie Reading in Lebanon, Mo near Bennett Springs. The only good line is a tight line
Greg Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 You should check ebay as well. There are always a # of them for sale there. I've purchased a couple of beautiful rods from builders that mostly sell through there (ebay). Specifically, what are you looking for? I have a custom flyrod made for me that has never seen a stream. It's a 4-wgt. Fishmeister Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I purchased one of Murdoc's rods (RDP) and love it, really good looks and fishes even better.

Gavin Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Since your in Troy...next time your in St. Louis, stop by Tom Hargrove's shop and check out some of his custom rods...I own two of them, and his feather inlay work is fantastic. Cheers.
brownieman Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I have seen some of Charlie Readings rods...they are nice but pricey. I know a guy that fishes Montauk quite a bit and he had a split bamboo made by reading. He had some feathers from his pet parrot inlayed on the rod and the butt piece looked more like a piece of jewelry than a handle...nice work and it should have been, believe he payed $3500.00 for the rod...I would be about half scared to use the rod but I guess I wouldn't have one built if I had no intention of using it. My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
