Gallagher Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 Forgive me if this sounds a bit lame, but has anyone attended a fly casting class, if so, what are the benefits other than studying, applying, & practicing the techniques. I know they occassionally hold them at the White River Fly Shop at Bass Pro, but I wasn't sure just how informative it'd be, rather it be for kids learning, older people wanting to get into it, for everyone, or just what the "norm" is? Thanks! Carry out what you carry in...
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 20, 2009 Root Admin Posted June 20, 2009 If you have the time and $$$, clinic are good, even for the experienced. I went to my first last spring even after I've been a caster for 35 years and learned alot.
smallmouthjoe Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 Where are these clinics held? Are there any around Springfield?
Gallagher Posted June 20, 2009 Author Posted June 20, 2009 Well, I'm not sure how in depth they are, but classes are held at Bass Pro on saturday mornings from 9 am to 11 am, you just need to go to their website to check the schedule on which type of class you're wanting, & pre-registration is required, which can be done by calling in. Gallagher Posted June 20, 2009 Author Posted June 20, 2009 Here's a link for classes, & there is NO FEE to attend. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...ID=15#workshops Carry out what you carry in...
smallmouthjoe Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 I went to one last year and i was the only guy there that had ever even held a fly rod. There were so many people there that the instructor didn't really have that much time to help me. Do they have advanced lessons?
zsmith62 Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I've personally never taken such a course, but I've heard that the problem with bass pro's classes is that they do draw such a huge crowd and its next to impossible to get any one on one instruction. And if you think about it, that one on one instruction is exactly what makes taking the classes helpful. I think maybe going to a fly shop or somewhere smaller would be more instructional. Zach Smith
Don Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Your best bet is to hook up with a decent caster and get the basics down. After then, it's practice, practice, then practice. 30 minutes a day in the yard will work wonders. Nothing wrong withh lessons to get you started. Don May Don May I caught you a delicious bass.

smallmouthjoe Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Do you guys belong to or know of anyone that I could get in contact with about showing me a thing or two. I've been trying to teach myself how to roll cast but so far I can only roll out about ten feet of line. I know there's something I'm missing.
