I want to try Striper fishing, and to make the switch to braid, am thinking 20lb Fireline or Power Pro? Anyone have a suggestion on these or other brands, and which color do you prefer?

We'll be using spinning and level wind reels, for casting/trolling.

How many yards of braid do you suggest over the backing? Is 125 yards plenty of main line?

Thanks in advance.

I only use Power Pro and 20# isn't big enough for stripers. You only need a few feet of backing. Decide how much you may have to give a big fish and put that and another 50 yds on.

I have tried Spiderwire Fireline, Suffix, and Cabela's house brand. None can compare, IMO, to Power Pro Green.

Another vote for Power Pro ...

I use #20 on my spinning reels and # 50 on my baitcasting... I ALWAYS put 50-75 yards of #20 mono backing on my reels !! That way you know when to start the BIG motor and start chasing the striper....

Love Fireline, but for Striper Stuff I'd go with whatever braid you like and find on sale. Doesn't matter much when you're trolling. Casting is something else.

PowerPro (moss green) gets my vote also. Where I live, Sports Academy have them for $10.99 for a spool of 150(?) or so yards. This is pretty decent compared to other stores (walmart).
