strangercreek Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I found a bunch of Lamson Radius and Velocity reels on Ebay that say "new in box" in the $130-$160 range. Seems like a really good price, not sure if they are cosmetic defect, closeouts or what. Several different sizes as well. Just and FYI for anyone looking. I know these reels have a nice drag system on them.
zsmith62 Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 I guess id have to see the original ebay post, but by just going off of what you just said, your not getting a ridiculous sale price or anything like that, but they might be worth a look. I personally have 2 of the lamson konics and couldn't be happier with them. I've never looked at the velocity or radius but if theyre anything like the konic they might be worth a look. Zach Smith
vanven Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Lamson closed out their Velocity reels in 2008. At that point it was very easy to find a new one in the ~$125 range. Chances are that you are looking at an attempt to clear the same reels out of inventory. I cant comment on the Radius although I wouldn't be suprised if they are doing the same thing. I purchased a Velocity last winter when they initially dropped in price and I love it. At that price point there is no competition. Lamson uses the same sealed drag in all of their reels. You will not find a better reel for the price. -Jerod
Terry Beeson Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I love my two Konicas as well and I agree with Jerod... these are shelf pull closeouts. Just be sure there is a warranty on them and I'm sure there is with Lamson. Greg Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Both very nice reels. If the seller has a good track record (ebay feedback) and the warranty is still good - I think you would be fine and would be getting a good deal. The radius is a lot like the new Konic. But it is machined whereas the Konic is cast. So at least in theory it should be a bit lighter and stronger. vanven Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 If you want my nonexpert opinion: Radius > Velocity > Konic Amazing that follows the price of the reels as well. That does not mean any of the reels are bad. It does take into consideration weight, machined vs. cast, etc. I love my Velocity and am already looking forward to my next Lamson reel. -Jerod
