I believe you can camp but I'm just curious why? Just so you don't have to pay? There's a decent public campground outside of the park, straight across from the Tan Vat access that makes a great home base if you're wanting to fish the upper end of the Current (Baptist to the Park). They have bathrooms/showers, fire-rings, and the people that own are very nice.

Now its not the Hampton of campgrounds but if you can handle roughing it along the river, this place would be perfect. And its considerable cheaper than staying in the park.

I can't remember the name to save my life, but its directly across from Tan Vat.

Sure...plenty of camping...Your not suppossed to camp at Tan Vat, but folks do...Poor choice for a campsite IMO...Around Baptist...hike downstream two hundred yards or so and there is a decent gravel bar...Better camping down about mile and a half from Baptist, but you will want a canoe to keep your gear dry unless the river is really low. If your bringing your pop up..I'd stay at Eagles Park right across from the Tan Vat Access..They have level RV sites, and a showerhouse. Plus its not as smoky as the state park CG, and you dont have to deal with the state's screwy reservation system. Ozark Mountain Ranch is another option, but I've never stayed there. Cheers.

I have only fished the current a handful of times, but have waded the area between the park and baptist several times and there are very few gravel bars in this section large enough to set up camp on IMO.

Eagle Park is a "hoot".. I have stayed there mutiple times and the owners are easy to talk to, and will be glad to take a beer off your hands if you have an extra one ;)

Nothing wrong with PBR...its my float beer of choice...cheap, tastes good when ice cold, and it keeps the food moving..No headache like Bud either.

Stayed at Eagles Park in May and all I have to say, it was an experiance. I typically stay in the park but decided to give it a shot, lets just say if I go by myself this place will be my first choice, it not the ritz carlton but it did serve it's purpose for fishing Tan Vat. VERY CHEAP to stay also
