Does anyone know of any bait shops around Stockton that sell perch? I know Mini Mart sells goldfish and they work but not like perch.

you should be able to catch all that you want on main lake points. Just pull up with the walleye fishermen. I've been catching lots of them everyday.

Yes, thats what they are talking about. It confused the heck out of me when I saw someone pull out a bluegill and called it a perch.

You guys are getting way too techincal. Even the black bass are a type of perch. Our southern neighbors have it all figured out and call all of the small ones brem.

I would go to any dock around a ramp I go to Old State Park for mine but always catch a good mess for my jug lines.

One of my biggest fishing related pet peeves is when someone calls a bluegill or sunfish a "perch"... Growing up in Michigan, I caught my fair share of bluegills and perch. When we moved down here, everyone was calling the gills perch, it was confusing at first then it just got mildly annoying...not a big deal, but I'm just kinda particular about that sort of thing sometimes.

Heres a perch:

Green sunfish were also mentioned and they have been referred to as "Black Perch," locally. I've heard that catfish prefer them because they are not as spiny as Bluegills, which makes them easier to swallow. They can be caught around rocky banks and they have a large mouth, which explains why we've all caught them while fishing for bass. They are scrappy little guys.

I just assumed the guy was looking for something to bait a jugline or trotline. I think all the above will work fine. Sorry if it was confusing to anyone, but good luck fishing for whatever.

Sorry to offend anyone but around here we call them perch and most people understand. I do know there is a difference. Anyway I caught enough to bait my trotline in about 5 minutes on a bluff. It was just about as much fun as pulling those big cats off the next morning. Had a pretty good weekend on walleye and bass too. I caught a nice 7 lb flathead on a worm while bass fishing. Anyway thanks for the replies and sorry for the confusion.
