Bman Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Fished this afternoon with good fishing buddy, guide, and mentor, Chuck Griess. A belated Fathers Day Gift. Started with no generation till 2pm, it was a miss or hit every cast with Chucks version of trout crack, a sculpin colored wooly. The Dam fired up 2 units, then to 3 units (strong) and then the fishing really got to be fun! Went to dry fly's, and had so much fun I couldn't believe it! Cathing lots of quality fish mostly lots of healthy, thick, strong rainbows in the 18-19 inch range! a few browns too. Had a few taking me close to my backing. Hott dry of the day was the south african sand bettle. The only good line is a tight line

Bman Posted July 10, 2009 Author Posted July 10, 2009 Hi Laker, Or should I say...Obie-Wan. No boat today, I would really rather wade. The fishing today was more like catching! Had a ton of fun. Bman The only good line is a tight line

Bman Posted July 10, 2009 Author Posted July 10, 2009 Sounds like a great day. I've never really caught much on dries at Taney. Were you casting to rising fish? Greg Greg, Yes they were rising, to the bugs produced by the rising water, nice quality fish. The only good line is a tight line
Bman Posted July 10, 2009 Author Posted July 10, 2009 It's 2:55 Am got off the water about 2 am. Leonard and I had Taney to ourselves at that point. My fingers are wore out, they have some grooves cut in them. Thanks Leonard, on sharing the art of Taney streamer stripping. What a blast, although I think they were teasing me more than me teasing them. The only good line is a tight line
Trevor K Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Hopefully you don't think I'm trying to steal your spot, but where were you wading when you were casting the dry flies? Were you down past the boat ramp? I'll be down there in a few weeks and was hoping to give that a try myself. Thanks
Members Troutgod1 Posted July 10, 2009 Members Posted July 10, 2009 I fished yesterday morning, early, wasn't doing very well at all, some guy wearing a metal box on his chest was just catching fish after fish. He could tell, I think I had know idea what I was doing, as he was leaving he asked if I wanted some help, I said yes(he had caught 15 fish in the last hour, so he tied on a small egg pattern, a # 6 shot just 8" above the fly, he then cut a palsa float in 1/2 and put it about 18" above my egg pattern, and then he showed me how to fish the pattern, hooking two fish while doing this, and handed me the rod and told me he had to go to the house, where ever you are kind sir, thank you. I managed to land 4 fish before heading back to our rented combo, and thank you for telling me about Lilly's Landing, that is where we are staying next time, man right on the water, what could be better. Anybody know where you can buy a metal chest fly box like this guy was wearing, I think it was green, and it wasn't all that large. Thank you again for the help.

Members rvconrad Posted July 11, 2009 Members Posted July 11, 2009 The green metal chest box was probably a Richardson Fly Box. Tim's Flyshop has them. He's over by Roaring River.
