Members LB DRY FLY Posted July 14, 2009 Members Posted July 14, 2009 For you guys that have fished the Naknek and surrounding areas......I have about everything that I need except for tippet and leaders. What is the standard leader and tippet setup/size for the rainbow and char in September? I understand the zip line rig that you have recommended, but what about the tippet size? I suppose I should also take some standard 9 ft leaders. Size? And, how much leader and tippet should I take? I appreciate your input....thanks.
zander Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 surely some of the fellows who have fished up there will give you some advice, my advice would be wrong.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 20, 2009 Root Admin Posted July 20, 2009 You need only to use tippet, no tapered leaders. In September, take 4x, 3x, 2x and 1x for the shooting line rigs. I'd throw in 5x if you're going to do any dry fly fishing- so you need to take a 5 wt with floating line. I use 7 wt for rainbows. We broke one rod on the plane ride to Ugashik so you might think about taking extras.
Members LB DRY FLY Posted July 20, 2009 Author Members Posted July 20, 2009 Thanks Phil. I read your trip report. How do you think the low water that you were reporting will affect the Sept fishing for rainbows? More opportunities for wade fishing with floating line?
