We were asking for prize donations.

Yea- it's getting harder and harder to get donations. Everyone has their hand out.

There is an Annual One Fly Tournament held in December on the Lower Illinois river in Oklahoma. Zach Bearden usually posts the event in the forums. If you check the December posts in that forum you will see some of the specifics. You can enter the tournament by purchasing the fly for $5 each. The rules are simple. You can only fish the $5 fly but you can buy as many of them as you want. The fly remains unknown until the day of the tournament. The past two years they have handed out awards for First fish, Most fish and Largest fish.

Are there rules in "regular" bass tournaments excluding Flies? I've never caught a 20# limit on fly rod, but 10-12# is not that uncommon. Haven't found that fly to catch 4# bass consistently.

A lot of different tournaments (B.A.S.S. for one) exclude rods longer than 8', and some specifically exclude fly gear. I'm not sure why, unless they think there's an advantage to using a fly rod?

The 8' rule was because of Dee Thomas, because he basically was using a long cane pole to reach places others couldn't. And winning. Losers always cry foul, so they changed the rules to exclude long rods.Brave New world of Flippin'

Still not sure why the fly gear exclusion though.

Sage and a couple of others have come out with rods just under 8' in the past year marketed as "tournament legal" - but I don't know many they're selling.
