Brian K. Shaffer Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Can anyone offer up some advice on where to wade fish on the James ? I am looking for park and walk in access. ( not floating ) Thanks very kindly, Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
smallmouthjoe Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 The James can be kind of hard to wade in some places. I've waded from Hooten up, around Shelvin, at 125, up from Delaware town and behind The Dam at Springfield Lake. And Honestly the best wade spot I've found is behind The Dam. If you walk down from the Dam there's not only good fish (every time I go there I catch nice bass) but it's not that tough of a wade. The stretch above Hooten is a tough wade because you have to walk a little ways to get to good water. The fishing around Shelvin is usually pretty good but about a half mile above the access there's a giant hole that holds good fish, the problem is getting to them. The same problem applies to Delaware Town. I haven't been to 125 in years because you can't park there anymore but the water down from there is pretty good and easy to wade. A place that I've been wanting to try is around Joe Creighton. I've floated from there to The Lake a few times and there's a lot of good fishing in that stretch. If you do go to that stretch let know how it went.
Flysmallie Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Kerr access is a good spot. I've waded at least a mile downstream of there and a good half mile upstream. Getting away from the access will produce some fish. I've also done well wading around Galena.
