OzarksRiverman Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I've floated the North Fork from Dawt a couple times. I don't get down there much, I'm from Ozark. I've never been able to fish any on my floats, and I was just wondering if there are any bass in the N. Fork especially Smallies. I hear a lot about the trout but never anything about bass.

I floated from Hebron to Twin Bridges a couple of weeks ago and caught a lot of small smallmouth and googleye on that stretch. -SS

I came late to this topic, or I would have told you to go fish above Topaz for a great wade/fish trip for Smallies, I've been doing it for years. I got clued in to this from the book Ozark Hideaways by Louis C. White, which strangely enough I just did a short review of for my site. You might check Springfield for this book, I don't think the Ozark library has it, but you can get it transferred to the Ozark branch via COOLCAT. (Or ask a librarian) I have a signed copy. Anyway, he has a really great outline of hiking and wading this upper section in the book, and another trip downstream, and another on Indian Creek that pours in not too far downstream. Good stuff, trust me. I've never caught huge fish in that area, but you will catch plenty of fish.

Might be a few tresspass issues involved with some of his recommendations though. FWIW, the mill pond above Dawt usually holds a few bass if your floating down that way. Cheers.
OzarksRiverman Posted August 4, 2009 Author Posted August 4, 2009 Well, how'd you do? I didn't go to the North Fork this past weekend. I decided to go down to Hercules Glades and fish Long Creek. Caught a bunch of goggle eye and smallmouth, caught a good 19"er. I'm going to go down and check out Topaz and fish back up toward 76 hwy here pretty soon though.
