flyfshn Posted July 31, 2009 Author Posted July 31, 2009 Never heard of the mono poly? Guess I have not paid that much attention to them. Will have to check that one out also. Having 4 fly fishers in the family, I was just wondering if the furled might save some $$ since you dont have to replace them as often. Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Danoinark Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Let me add that the Cabelas poly leaders are about half the price of Airflo and Rio poly's. I have used them for years. Simply loop to loop the 5 ft poly leader to your flyline, then loop to loop the length of tippet you want. I typically use about 4 to 5 feet of tippet. The great thing is that you have to just keep adding tippet when you break off or get wind knots, in the tippet. You won't get wind knots in the poly leader. They are as supple as your fly line. I use them when smallie fishing too. I have some of the sinking ones I just loop to the same fly line when fishing streamers or nymphing deep in higher water. For me the sinking ones have eliminated sink tip or sinking fly lines. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Greg Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I voted mono. I've tried the furled leaders and just didn't care for them. I've thought about full fluoro leaders but the cheaper mono last and work very well for me. I do use fluoro tippet most of the time. BlueWave Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Last year I started using feather-craft furled leaders for all of my flyfishing..trout/stripers/salwater. Use fluro or mono tippet depending on the application. Great product!!!
Brian K. Shaffer Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Me ? I dont use leaders... I use woven hairs of horsetail ! Well not really.. but thats what they used to use on them new fangled fly rods. PETA would love that! ( They probably would be terrible to use anyways ) I use MONO. I've tried all of them out there.. and I always go back to regular mono. Although each different one mentioned does have its special application as was pointed out. screaming reels - Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Buzz Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I voted fluro. Like many posts before mine, different applications are needed at different times. Sometimes mono, sometimes fluro, and sometimes a furled leader in either mono or thread with either a mono or fluro tippet. Really just depends on what you like best. I try to have some of each. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
