Zack Hoyt Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I wasnt sure how many of you knew or would care, but there will be no FLW Tournament next year. They decided to move it to Lake Quachita. I think the big bass boats get obnoxious on teh water during the tourney, but it was a big source of revenue for the city and local businesses. Here are a few articles about the subject: http://www.4029tv.com/money/20055117/detail.html http://www.kfsm.com/news/northwestarkansas...0,1956166.story Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
denjac Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Thats too bad. Bet Hot Springs one uped Rogers to get them down there. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. For a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." ~ Winston Churchill ~
jeb Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I saw that on the local news a couple of weeks ago. They mentioned that because Rangers parent company (Genmar) was in backruptcy, they were trying to cut costs. I don't fully understand how the move does that, but it's what the news said. I'm surprised they're having the series at all, actually, given the apparent financial situation at Genmar. At any rate, it will be odd not having the FLW circus come to town next spring. Zack Hoyt Posted July 29, 2009 Author Posted July 29, 2009 Honestly......I am pretty sure Ranger is in good shape. Not perfect, but good. Genmar went in the hole because they overextended themselves into to many genres of boat. The way Ranger works, there is no boat built that is not ordered. All boats have to be ordered by the dealer or customer. Basically this means there are no boats laying around at the factory. The cost goes to the dealership for the most part. The other companies that Genmar owns do not run production this way. All that to say......I dont buy the "ranger wanted to move it to save costs". I think of Hot Springs as more of a travel destination than Rogers and alot more for out of towners to do. Just my humble opinion. It will be odd not having the circus though. hoglaw Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 On the cost savings deal, I thought they moved to Ouachita because there was another tournament in the area around the same time frame. Maybe on Hamilton or DeGray? I guess it's two birds with one stone.
jeb Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Yeah, some costs savings associated with the multiple tournaments in the same area is listed as a reason in the links in the first post. I just don't understand how that saves them any money. It's not like the events are several states apart. Oh well, it is what it is. I hope Ranger pulls through the Genmar bankruptcy. It'd be a shame to lose such a venerable brand! I almost bought one this spring locally, but the dealer was too busy to bother with us. It worked out for the best, though, since it made me step back and look at other brands, which lead me to find out what a great boat Skeeter builds, too. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha

This is all talk but i heard Wal Mart is out as the main sponser of flw.Someone thought that Cabelas was going to pick them up. And thats the reason for them not going to Benton, Wal Marts headcourters.
Members skeeterp Posted July 29, 2009 Members Posted July 29, 2009 Yeh, its a circus but it brings a lot of exposure to NW Ark. and Beaver Lake and money into the area. My 6 year old daughter loved going and getting the trading cards and autographs and free fishing pole. I used to take my boys when they were younger. It's a neat thing to do on Saturday afternoon for the younger kids. Most of the fisherman are great guys just trying to make a living, I respect that too. The few out on the water that are jerks, well thats what makes the world go round. I'd be surprised if they didn't come back to Rogers though. Even if they aren't the Title sponsor or main sponsor, they are the #1 seller of almost every product and sponsor that is affiliated with the FLW so, someone will get smart and figure that out.

That'd be awesome! I used to live 40 minutes from one and practically lived there. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
