RSBreth Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I fished the James Monday in the McCall Bridge area, and did pretty good. Best lure was a white compact spinnerbait "bulged" right under the surface. Nothing huge, just lot's of numbers. I did get towed around by what was probably a catfish that missed the spinnerbait but hit the soft jerkbait I threw back at the blow-up. It came loose and I never saw what it was. All in all a good trip. The James was slighlty off color, but clearing, and water levels were great. I wished I had the entire day to fish, It was nice despite the heat.
smallmouthjoe Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Last year my girl caught a 3 to 4 pound cat on a rebel craw in The James. It's amazing how they'll hit something like a topwater or a crankbait. Thanks for the report, I'm off to The James after I type this.

I was looking in my paddlers guide and my atlas and they showed me nothing. I checked out google earth and it looked like it was past Ponce on Highway V. Is there parking available or do you know someone? Thanks again.
RSBreth Posted August 7, 2009 Author Posted August 7, 2009 There's a spot where the county road parallels the River and an informal take out. You used to be able to access the river near the old steel bridge, but when the new bridge went up it it effectively blocked access there, which is too bad. I'll P.M. you.
