Members champion191 Posted April 16, 2006 Members Posted April 16, 2006 I went to long creek yesterday(sat) and had 27 keepers. Caught all of them in two spots in 50 yard stretch. the bank was a bluff with a small ledge that dropped about 4 feet on bank. alot of them hit as soon as it started to sink above brush that was on bottom. caught all of them on a white grub or blue tube. had about 20 shorts as well. keppers were 12-14 inches. An awesome day for crappie fishin.
FRENZEL Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Are the crappie actual;ly spawning here or just staging up? TRACY FRENZEL FRENZELS GUIDE SERVICE 417-699-2277 "ONE MORE CAST"
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 16, 2006 Root Admin Posted April 16, 2006 From what I've heard- both. They don't all spawn at once- there will always to those spawning and those staging. Buster said he caught 3 limits easily yesterday with clients using a jig/float 18 inches deep 3-4 feet off the bank in the Long Creek area.
Members Wildside88 Posted April 17, 2006 Members Posted April 17, 2006 what type of line do you all use for crappie? I bought some of the BassPro crappie line and it is horrible, it is either the line or the reels that I bought, bought some ultra light Browning reels and I have to reline them about every time I fish. Has any of you ever used a light braided line when you crappie fish? Just tryn to get an idea of what I should put on them. Thanks
FRENZEL Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I use the bass pro exel in 4 lb green. Seems fine to me. TRACY FRENZEL FRENZELS GUIDE SERVICE 417-699-2277 "ONE MORE CAST"
Members champion191 Posted April 17, 2006 Author Members Posted April 17, 2006 a few of them had already spawned out but most were still full of eggs. i had two of them that released some eggs as i was pulling them in the boat. most of the crappie i caught were black crappie. I use bass pro crappie line that is camo colored. it is a mixture of green, red, blue and clear line. i always use 4lb test line so that when i hang up i can easily break off without spooking the fish too bad. Has anyone heard of the crappie bite on bull shoals in the diamond city area?
Members peegee12 Posted April 17, 2006 Members Posted April 17, 2006 Champ, hope there was more than one of you in the boat java script:emoticon('', 'smid_5') (daily limit on TR for crappie is 15) ... what time of day were you catching them?
