I fished upper and lower Taneycomo Sunday Aug 9 and it was slow to say the least. We picked up a few fish trolling below Branson with spinners. We proceed down to Bull Creek where we started to encounter 70-78 degree water and found fishing very poor. What will trout do in these temperatures? Move up or down or die??? We fished Bull Creek and some other weed beds and found no bass bite either. It is too bad Trav doesn't report like he use to because we threw a lot of lures and had no bites.

brbf,

I guided on Taney on Sunday, we had 28 fish and 8 over 14", all rainbows. Most came on 1/2 nightcrawler on what I use as a drift rig (Small weight carolina rig 24" to 36" leader), you had to inject some air into the crawlers to get bit. Four pound main line and two pound fluorocarbon leader. All of the fish were on the channel side of the lake from just above Monkey Island to Short Creek. They weren't jumping in the boat and the bite was very light but we managed to catch quite a few fish.

As far as bass are concerned on Taney, I can't help you there haven't been bass fishing on Taney for about two months.

Hope this helps,

EP

Redbird,

We were at Rockaway two weekends ago. The guys I was with all stayed below Bull Creek for a lot of the trip. They were catching plenty on both powerbait and crappie jigs.

I think I could see a temperature band on my HDS unit, down about 10-12 ft. although the surface temp was in the upper seventies, the guys were catching plenty of fish on the bottom , or at least deeper in the water column. I was kind of theorizing that there must be cooler water settled out below the warm surface layer. I think they were fishing on the bottom and catching fish down by the darn in 25+ FOW the second day. They caught limits for 5 guys two days in a row.

I know it's not an up to date report, but maybe it will help.

Sounds like the number one main tip there is extremely light line.

Yea, I'm no expert on Taney that's Phil's gig. But I have noticed over the past couple of years that if there is no generation you have to use two pound fluoro to get more bites.

Have to say I kind of miss him. He could at times aggravate the devil out of me. But he could be extremely funny and knowledgeable as well. He sure got things stirred up at times!!

his reports of 10 lb brown trout, and sport bass galore inspired me to try the lower lake.

he should get a job at the chamber of commerce for rockaway beach.

we've taken a family vacation the last two fourth of july's in forsythe because of him.

the lower lake has good family fishing...without the crowd
