Heading down to Ahrrison area in North Ark for the weekend (Sat.-Tues) to visit relatives and thinking about taking my dad on a James River Float. Very familiar with the area but have never floated. My buddy used to use Highway Y Floats (if that is right). He said the guy sold it and not sure what;s going on...Looking for anames and phone #s of float places and the best stretch to float..Any help would be appreciated......Thanks..Steve

Steve, I have used the James River Outfitters. They are in Galena right by the bridge. They are really nice and helpful. Their # is 417-357-6447. They also have a website that can be helpful as well. My favorite float is from Cox to Galena, takes about 5-7 hours depends how hard you fish. there is a lot of good water in that float.

Foudn that website earlier today and was leaning that way...was going to ask then which section is the best fishing float but it looks like you look care of that. Any bite that I should look for (bigger baits). I usually use small craws and shakey heads. Any topwater, buzzbaits, jig, or spinnerbait bite or is it too hot and slow moving...Thanks for the help

The craws and shakey heads will work. But don't forget the topwaters and buzzbaits. Those will produce some really great takes at times. And I always have a spinnerbait tied on to at least one rod.

The water will slow as you get closer to Galena, but there is fishy water all along the way. Looks like the river spiked up a couple of days ago but is almost back to normal. Didn't come up much but the increased flow should have the fish turned on.

Good luck and watch out for the idiots.

Spooks, bitsy bugs with a craw tail and then the old faithful small craw cranks have seemed to worked best for me. If you can go on a week day it will much quieter also.
