Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 14, 2009 Root Admin Posted August 14, 2009 I took a father and two sons out this afternoon for about 2 hours. We started at the dam and drifted almost to our place. Egg flies first and then gulp eggs at Fall Creek. Only picked up nice rainbow right at the start. The water was coming on strong and there were lots of stuff in the water so maybe that's why we didn't do well. Took a short break at the resort and then back at it. Drifted down from the dock and immediately started catching rainbows on Gulp Eggs - white/orange mainly. The boys each caught fish and so did dad. 11 in all from Lilleys down past Taneycomo Acres on one drift. Quite at 5 pm. So catching isn't as "fair" as I reported the other day. Had a family fish yesterday late afternoon and report the same thing - good drifting when the water gets up and rolling. They even went down to the old gold mine below Branson and did well.
Gatorjet Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I fished Thursday morning from Fall Creek to Short Creek. Didn't have a lot of success until I got to Short Creek. I caught several 12-14 inch 'bows on inflated night crawlers. The bite was so slight that I didn't feel it at all. I had to watch the line for ANY odd movement. A twitch, a slight movement to the side, or sometimes it moved straight toward the boat. The big problem was that by the time you noticed the bite, they had swallowed the hook. Most seemed healthy, and weren't bleeding so I cut the line to release them as safely as possibly. I kept 4 that were bleeding when I brought them into the boat. Didn't want to injure any more, so I fished a jig & float for a while with some success, but not as good as the crawlers. Friday morning wasn't as good, only a couple smaller fish in the same area. There were more fishermen there then, and it didn't seem that anybody was doingvery good. Didn't fish the drift in the afternoon much, had to take Wifey to town, and SDC to do the Branson stuff. Don't mind, it's all part of the fun! Real men go propless!
