Hit the park today. Didn't waste any time with the actual park, instead I paddled above riverside to check on the fish I caught there a few weeks ago. The first initial hole above riverside wasn't as good as last time, but I did manage to catch a few rockbass and smallmouth. I went up a bit further and found a nice run that had submerged wood all over it. Managed to land a good number of fish but most were on the small size. The biggest smallie of the day only went around 12. It was still fun and I can't complain. I started fishing a little late and I couldn't find many fish that where willing to hit the crank. The better active style bait was the jerkbait which was a black and gold husky jerk worked really fast around cover. The best bite was flipping a copper bitsy tube into submerged wood and just letting it sit. Really light bite that without the aid of my fireline I most likely wouldn't have felt. Take care.

I know which hole you're talking about. Usually from there down to Riverside is full of smaller Bass, but loads of Rock Bass. Just filthy with them. Fun fishing.

The amount of rock bass really surprised me, they're all over the place. Fishing that section is fun and I wish I could put in at Riverside to avoid paddling two miles before I get a chance to fish. But if they were easy to get to they probably wouldn't be there.

How long does it take to paddle up that far?

I paddled pretty hard because I had to be at work. It didn't take too long, about twenty minutes or so. The problem with paddling up from the park is keeping yourself from fishing all the good looking spots that you pass.

I also fished there yesterday. Put in at the park around 7:00 am until noon. Got as far as the restaraunt. Caught a few small bass on a spinnerbait and a tube early. Then pulled out the 5 wt and killed the perch on a floating white popper. Like a kid in a candy store. Caught a few tree limbs too - hope nobody was watching...

I know what bluegills look like. But what are the other two fish I was catching repeatedly? One is as colorful as a rainbow. A little smaller than the average gill. The other perch, much fatter, bigger mouth, green, but not a rock bass. I know what they look like.

Was that you in the yellow kayak? I was in the green kayak.

The rainbow looking fish was more than likely a longear sunfish. And the sunfish with a bigger mouth is a green sunfish (they have a similar body to an Ozark Bass). RS could tell you more, but there are 3 types of Rock Bass and the type that I catch in the Finley are always Ozark Bass (small black dots all over the sides).

Sounds like a good trip.

say, did you guys see that small clearing on Riverside Rd just south of the Inn? It looks like enough room for a car to park. Is that a place to park and put in? I've seen the no tresspassing all over the Inn parking lot, but this spot is well past there. I was curious if anyone has done that. As far as wade fishing, there is a good spot just south of the Inn. You can see it if you park in the Inn's dirt lot on the far side. nice little pool there. I picked up a small inflatable so I'm looking for pools to fish on the Finley

I did see a man that was parked along the road just south of riverside. But I have had enough trouble from land owners and I don't want to take the chance. Dave, if you do park there and no one says anything, let me know. It would knock a considerable amount of paddling time off. Thanks.

Itomczyk, I have a green old town kayak. The only other kayak I saw was the man I just described but I thought that his was yellow.
