Members Bwinkert Posted August 17, 2009 Members Posted August 17, 2009 Looking at taking about a week long trip down to the NFOW later this month, I plan bringing my kayak an floating 2 or 3 days even if its the same sections over and over doing some smallmouth fishing and a few days of trout fishing. Any suggestions Brad
Kyle Kosovich Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 If it were me and I had that chance to spend a week alone with the North Fork, I'd go as far up stream as possible and make it an epic journey all the way to Dawt Mill or Tecumseh at the Forks of th North Fork Lake. Put in at Twin Bridges at the least, perhaps even farther up. Around Hebron you will have to get out and drag but if your dragging then there isn't going to be any canoe rentals shuttling people up that far either. Or if your there during the week it will be less traffic as well. Fishing would be great I suspect. Once your on the water that long you are bound to strike gold. Thats my suggestion.... Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. Kyle Kosovich Boat Builder/Guide http://www.LongboatOutfitters.com
Gavin Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Depends on what you want to do...do you want to do a minimalist trip and camp on the river, or base camp it at a place like ROLF or Sunburst? Sept/Oct smallmouth fishing can be hit or miss on most streams, but trout fishing usually picks up a bit in that time frame, browns staging to spawn and moving up river towards the springs...It can be good but the moss can be a PIA some years.
Members Bwinkert Posted August 18, 2009 Author Members Posted August 18, 2009 I was thinking of maybe just staying at River of Life. I work for the Fire Department and it's just time to get out of town for a few days. I thought about doing the whole river float but I didnt wanna deal with having to ferry my truck etc. So I'm thinking Ill just hit River of Life. I checked out the site seems like a nice place and really geared towards fly fishing which all I pretty do. Thanks Guy's Brad
Members tinner Posted August 18, 2009 Members Posted August 18, 2009 I can vouch for ROLF it is a great place to stay. You won't find nicer people than the Mckee's. The water is really good on ROLF also. Just be careful because there are some big rocks on the other side of the falls that are really slick..don't ask how I know this. haha
Members Bwinkert Posted August 19, 2009 Author Members Posted August 19, 2009 Well I decided to go ahead and go with ROLF...Staying Mon-Friday...Really lookin forward to it.
