Fishing For Drum............

I've caught sooooooooo many of those dang things!! Never relized they were worth eating. When we were kids dad use to take the plate looking things from there head that gives them the ability to make that sound they do and we would make things out of them. I wished he would have known how to clean and fix them. My biggest is around 9lbs. When they hit they like to stay close to the bottom and they do fight pretty good.

Best drum fishing I ever did was below Bagnell Dam on the Osage.

We'd drop a white jig down near the bottom and drift with the current.

Our intent was to imitate the dying or dead shad.

We'd drift the seams and WHAM!!!!

Caught lots of huge drum, some big cats, and wipers.

It is an amazing time when the fish are feeding

and the water is running.

We never knew what we had till we got it up off the bottom,

and once hooked, they did NOT want off the bottom!!

I ought to go do that again.

Okay.... I realize this is a odd topic, but I'll go forward anyway... Am I the only one on this forum who enjoys fishing for freshwater drum every now and then? Freshly cooked, they're awful good to eat, and they readily hit both artificials and worms. What's not to like. I was just curious, cause I never hear anyone talking about them. I know many consider them a trash fish, but I think they're fun.

I catch most of mine in the Meramec below where the Bourbeuse flows in.

If you like fishing for drum, your worm rig will also catch yellow and hog suckers. Fileted and scored I will take a mess of suckers over crappie any day.
