I've got a 10yr old Viper (Coral) fishnski, and I'm kinda meticulous about it.

It's always been garage kept, and the boat & trailer are in very good condition.

That said, it won't be long before I'll need to replace the trailer bunks.

It looks like a fairly straightforward job, but I wonder about pulling the new carpet back nice & tight, and securing it so's it stays there for another 10 years. Plus, the carpeting around the side rails are pretty much seamless... and I know my (skill & patience) limits! It's gotta look professional.

Anybody tackle this job? Any advice? thanks a bunch

Any time I have to do this kind of work, I make everything at home. I measure, drill, install the necessary bolts, glue and staple the carpet. Then I go to the lake and have someone take the boat out or tie it up somewhere, go to the parking lot and replace what needs to be replaced.

I'm betting, where you are, that George at Beaver Creek would let you tie up your boat for a while as you did the work. You might even leave it there and go back home to do the installing.

Thanks Dutch...

I'm not too worried about the lumber work & etc., just the carpet stretching & tacking (& gluing?).

just an FYI, if you choose to use new new lumber thats pressure treated, you will have to use stainless steel staples or tacks. You could find nails that are triple galvanized or just ACQ rated but on a trailer id find stainless tacks/staples/nails.

the new pressure treated wood corrodes regular metal fast.

Thanks a bunch for the tip... I'm guessing that's the "yella wood" you're talking about?

What I might do is buy some small amount of the materials and try my hand at the carpet tacking portion of it. Where does a feller buy this type of carpet anyways?

Ahh, they've got the glue and everything... thanks!

Make sure the bunks extend past the transom of the boat. Better support of the boat and it will not knock the bottom out.

I made bunnks for the river boat three years ago treated lumber and regular staples from Harbor frieght and we use this trailer two or three times a week most weeks, not rusted anything yet. we also did not glue the carpet down. One of the people that builds trailer told me not to, so I followed his directions. I forgot the reasons.
