Daveinozark Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 i tried a spot this morning off of McCauley and 32st street. It was a bit thick to get to, and the current was too swift and shallow for my inflatable there. I'm afraid of scraping a hole in the boat one of these times. I'm still curious about trying under the 65. Going to Google earth, I noticed a street behind the old jeep dealership, down 10th street, to Hall street. looks like a dirt road goes down to the river. I'd check it out myself, but can't today with the rain. Can anyone, like RS or smallmouth tell me about that spot? Does it have a clear shot to the 65 w/o getting too shallow?
smallmouthjoe Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Trying to find a place on the Finley where your not going to have to drag is tough. If i remember right the place you went 32nd opens up for a pretty good stretch a little ways down. I've seen people parked along side the 65 bridge accessing the river I would assume, but Ive never done it myself so I don't know if you'll be OK doing that or not. And to be honest I've never caught very many fish around the Bridge when I've floated that section of the river. I've seen big LM's hanging around there, but their like the LM's in the hole above Green Bridge very spooky.
Daveinozark Posted September 7, 2009 Author Posted September 7, 2009 i tried the section under the 14 bridge by the old Jeep dealership today. I hit the water early, 7am, too early I guess fish are sleeping in for the holiday. I didn't get any bites until 8:30, then got plenty of bites. I still have a hard time hooking anything out there. What size hooks/jigs do you recommend on the Finley? Only thing they were biting was the 3inch pink worm on the bottom in the middle of the river. Not much action in cover lately, at least that early
RSBreth Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Are you driving the Cherokee? It was the only vehicle down there when I jogged past right at about 6:45 A.M. (Yes, I jog. I know you probably can't tell from looking at me.) Anyway, the entire stretch from the dam down to 65 is fair at best. No big fish (there are exceptions) but just not worth my time. I'd rather paddle up above Riverside and mess with little Rock Bass than fish that stretch. The little bit down from 65 accessed from 32nd street is a little fast there - sorry I forgot you had the inflatable. Maybe upstream of where the Finley dumps into the James of Equine Valley Road? It's not to far, and pretty good. Still too far?

I got some huge bites but didn't get anything there. Too bad, there's a nice deep spot where the current comes together that looks like it would be good. That little section is probably pretty well fished out though. My problem is that I don't want to do much paddling and can't handle the rocks. Partially because I'm too lazy, but the boat doesn't manueuver well too. I originally looked to put in on the other side of the bridge, but I'm not sure if Riverside Inn would tow me from parking in their lot. Also, that land owner on the other side has dog warning signs up and I've seen them before. It looks like the house further down Greenbrige road has the perfect spot, is there ticketing/towing with parking along side Greenbridge road there?

There's trampled barb wire and enough room to fit the jeep. Any towing concerns there?
smallmouthjoe Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 I wouldn't park there. Could you get someone to drop you off? That's how I usually do it. As far as hook size goes, match the hook to the size of soft plastic your using. 4" worm / 1 6"-8' worm/2 etc... I rarely use anything above a 2 on The Finley. You might try a more natural color, the fish in this river see a lot of lures. The only time I use bright colors is when the water is stained or when the fish are really active.
