Members Scott Stidham Posted April 12, 2010 Members Posted April 12, 2010 If anyone is interested in making a trip down the Barron let me know. Ive been working on one of the float operators to pick me up at the welling bridge and take me up to Elgin bridge and drop me off, it would be about a 6 mile float with some great fishing.
Members ColeM. Posted April 13, 2010 Members Posted April 13, 2010 PM your email address. I am interested.
Members FlyfishinOK Posted April 14, 2010 Members Posted April 14, 2010 That sounds like fun. What's the water level like right now?
Members Russ Posted September 13, 2010 Members Posted September 13, 2010 Any advice on how to get the big fish in Barron Fork creek to bite? I could see them but only smaller fish jumped on my tiny brush hog.
Members FlyfishinOK Posted May 16, 2011 Members Posted May 16, 2011 Fished for an hour at Welling Bridge yesterday. Caught 6 smallies & 8 sandies. water was up but still clear. I'm coming back for a kayak trip from 51 bridge to Welling Bridge. Does anyone know if there is a place to leave a vehicle at the 51 bridge? I have a map of the upper Illinois river area and it shows a "public access" icon at the bridge. I didn't have time to check it out. I guess another option would be to drop in at the Echota public acess on the UIR and float down to the confluence and then go back up to the Welling bridge area? Anyone have any experience doing this?
Members FlyfishinOK Posted May 22, 2011 Members Posted May 22, 2011 We floated from Eldon bridge down to Welling bridge. There was easy acess and parking at both sites. With all the rain the previous days the river was way up and muddy. With heavy flow it took 4 hrs to go the approx 6 miles. We stopped to fish different areas but had no luck. Will be going back when the water is down and clear.
