Quillback Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Wow, what a fish! It's healthy looking too, probably could have gotten even bigger, makes you wonder if their are some out there that are truly huge. I'm surprised one has never turned up in Table Rock from the browns stocked below Beaver dam. Some nice bows have been caught in TR, you would think then that there could be some huge browns swimming around.

Anyone have any big brown stories from TR?
Trevor K Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I remember hearing and reading about the one that got shocked up during the MDC surveys. I can't even imagine a fish like that. I'm sure they don't get that big by being stupid though.
Gatorjet Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Looks like the White River is going to lose it's title. It's about time my home state produced a fish this size. I always knew it was possible. http://www.ludingtondailynews.com/news.php?story_id=45793 Wasn't the Arkansas world record fish caught in the Little Red River below Grears Ferry Lake, not the White River? The Michigan fish is a real beauty, Congrats to the angler! I am sure that that size is not only possible, but probably in Tany. I just don't think there is anybody that targets the real "monsters" . Real men go propless!
Greg Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Taney seems a bit like a fish bowl to me, but then again I don't fish it. Would it be possible for a fish like that to swim around for years and years without someone noticing it? Fish bowl?? Maybe in some ways since the fish are all stocked. But those stocked fish sure grow big............. Greg "My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it" - Koos Brandt Greg Mitchell
Danoinark Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Wasn't the Arkansas world record fish caught in the Little Red River below Grears Ferry Lake, not the White River? Yep, Rip Collins on 4lb test. Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"

I read once (in Ozarks Blue Ribbon Trout Streams), that there is somewhat of a deepwater trout fishery in Table Rock. Both migrants from the White and Roaring River it said.
rps Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Big brown stories from the Beaver tail waters? Well, one time at band camp ... Actually, big browns are there. I've seen one or two ghosting like they do. Not 40 pounds, but teens. A friend in my boat caught a six or seven pound brown while walleye fishing with me several years ago. If fish can live to that size, then they can live to much larger. The problem is numbers. Only one fish out of how many lives long enough and well enough to take advantage of a genetic tendency for size. There just are not that many browns in the Beaver tail water. Wait a minute, I forgot. All the browns below Beaver died. They're not there any more.
Randall Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Correct me if I'm wrong but that looks like a female. From what I understand its the males that usually get bigger. I can't believe how long that fish is either; it seems like the monster browns you generally see are a lot fatter. What a pig. Cute animals taste better.
hoglaw Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 If I'm not mistaken, the last three world records have come from Arkansas. Rip's 40lb 4oz fish near Lobo on the Little Red, Mike's 38 and change fish (on corn I believe) near McClellan's on the Norfork, and the previous one came from the White I thought.
