FRENZEL Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Taney has plenty of giants in it.. Just gonna take a miracle to get one in. I saw one a couple years back that was choking on a 15" rainbow. It was head first and looked like it was wedged in the big browns gills. We stayed over that fish just watching it thrash in 6 feet of water for 10 minutes. It finally spit the dead rainbow out and took off. I can't even really guess how big it was ..... Just huge! I love our "fishbowl". TRACY FRENZEL FRENZELS GUIDE SERVICE 417-699-2277 "ONE MORE CAST"
ohmz138 Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Just curious... Does anyone know what the beast was caught on? Size of Line? Spin or fly fishing? Congrats to the angler who caught it! I hope she put up a heck of a fight too! That makes it ten times better I think.

According to the article, they were trying for early King salmon, and this thing was just a freak accident. Apparently the client who caught it was with some real respected guide in the area, or at least that's the since I got from looking at a few posts from Michigan Sportsman Forum.

[/quote He was lucky he was fishing for Salmon at the time. He definetely had the right tackle then for fighting that monster. It would be pretty tough to land something like that on 6X..... but It can be done.
hoglaw Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 I didn't really mean to offend anyone with the "fishbowl" comment. I should have thought more about that before I posted it. I'm blessed to live in (Fayetteville) and be from (Little Rock) an area where I don't usually have to share my fishing waters with others. I'm not a big trout fisherman, though I'll do it from time to time and on the occasional trip up north or out west. I used to enjoy the Norfork, but the crowds out there seem to be getting worse and worse. My family has a place on the Little Red just downstream from Lobo, so I grew up fishing out there as well. I've only made two trips to Missouri for trout. One was to roaring river, which...in short... I could do without ever visiting again. Just not my cup of tea no matter how big the fish are. The other was to the North Fork in March. I have to say it was pretty cool. I just see all the posts about the crowds on Tanney and the size of the fish caught up there, and I guess I have an ignorantly formed negative impression of it. I suppose I shouldn't knock it until I try it, so I apologize for ruffling any feathers. I'm sure my wife would love to visit Branson, so maybe one of you guys can prove me wrong sometime. Tell you what, for every 24" fish you put me on, I'll gulp a goldfish as penance. I'll bring the goldfish.
