"ONE MORE CAST"

Posted

Sam, anyone that knows a flip about Table Rock, knows that the location you caught your 26 incher at is quite possibly the best Small Jaw location on the Rock. More 4 and 5 pound Jaw's have come from Power Line cove than the rest of the lake all put together. Also I believe the State Record or at least 8 out of 10 of the largest MeanMouth have come from that locatiion.

Had two clients each have 5 pound Jaw's on at the same time in Powerline. I have posted pics and they will be on my new website. It was even better before Chateau went in.

When I was a kid, you could walk the banks in Powerline and catch 3 to 5 pound LM till you just got tired of it and went home. Mostly on a purple ring worm.

Without a doubt, one of the Rocks really Big Fish Locations.

Thanks all, for the big fish posts, glad Betty is still a swimmin, great job.

Started at cape fair around 5:30 am. drove 5 miles south to the island / stump field and found whites and large mouth schooled and boiling together in the rain. absolutely the best day of fishing i have ever spent on the rock, they were taking a spook at light speed or a spoon ripped then fluttered.. try a lure you can cast extremely far they tend to move alot. As soon as the gar show up the fun is over take up and look for new boils. light gravel banks and long flats held LM all day , spook, spoon, and swim baits all took quality fish . They seem to move in and out of the flats so if nothing hits at 1-5ft on your topwater move out and toss a spoon and let it drop to around 15 ft , small rips and flutters , swim baits around the edges of these flats that held fish done very well . Drag it over the last of the level bottom to the edge of the drop off or ditch and just jig slowly bouncing bottom seldomly until your fish is on. counting whites and all,my friend and I took over 100 fish yesterday the only thing we had to really brag on besides sheer amount of fish was one LM that at best guess between us was close to 10 lbs taken just off the corner of a personal dock with a spook. LOOK for them white bass boils and you will find the LM , they are just as big of gluttons as the whites :P all in all around 65 whites and close to 50 LM , around 30% were keepers.

Seems like you're always catching an abundance of quality bass.....in EVERY one of your reports. Do you ever have a bad day of fishing?

Makes me wonder why you haven't chosen to pursue bass fishing as a career. ;)

Yes, but I caught that fish about 10 years ago. It was over toward the east side where the Chateau and those big docks have gone in - and I haven't done near so well in that cove since those were built. I caught a 23 1/2" smallmouth a couple of years ago, night fishing in the summer on a point just south of State Park.

I don't think the 26-incher would have been anywhere near a record - it was long and skinny and I doubt it weighed 7 lbs., but it's the best smallmouth I've ever caught. I didn't have a camera, but my partner sure remembers us measuring it.

Sam, 30 years ago, I used to deer hunt in that cove. Terry Parsons a local roofer and I would squirel hunt that entire area in the morning and then walk the banks throwing that purple ringworm. Man things were different then.

Cannot tell you how many times we built a fire and fried squirrel out on that point going into the Cove.

You know even then, we turned 90% of the bass we caught back, as it was just to "Dad Gum fun to ketch-em" I can remember though one day, I wanted to take a few home and I was wearing bibs, and just tried to stick them into the pockets of my bibs. They would not fit, and I was a slimy fishy mess. I had to cut a stick and put them on it.

Killed 3 deer with a bow in there.

We all were sad when Chateau went in, but the Biggins are a still in there from time to time.

Always appreciate your comments, they take me back.
