smallmouthjoe Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 I needed to go fishing before I started the weekly grind again, so I sacrificed sleeping in today and went to Bull Creek. It's a nice little stream that one of the veterans here told me about. I've been there many times this summer and haven't posted anything because I wanted to keep it a secret. But I feel that pretty much well all the people on this site are good people who practice catch and release and are definitely more environmentally minded than the party hard types that hang out there. It was a great day of fishing. I left all my jigs and tubes at home today in an effort to break my dependence on them. All I took was a light action rod some cranks, one popper, some original floaters and some shaky heads, just in case. I took my dog as well and it was nice to have the company even if he made me think that I had lost him and made me think of how my girlfriend would stick my head in a guillotine if I had. My effort to catch fish on active style baits worked out really well, I caught around 20 on a norman crappie crank which has been a really good crank everywhere I've gone this summer. The jerk bait for some reason wasn't doing the trick, I only caught one LM on it. The popper was producing little fish and the shaky head did really well like it always does everywhere at pretty much any time. The biggest one I caught today went around 13 or 14 and is big considering how small a stream this is. All the fish hit the crankbait like you would handle fine china, very, very, very lightly. A great day indeed my only regret is having to come home and type a lab report. Take care.
Members ltomczyk Posted September 27, 2009 Members Posted September 27, 2009 Were you wading? Kayak? Access point? Always looking to try new spots, if you don't mind sharing. Maybe you could send a PM. Thanks
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 But I feel that pretty much well all the people on this site are good people who practice catch and release and are definitely more environmentally minded than the party hard types that hang out there. Its always comforting to be able to think that way, but don't confuse those that post here and all those that visit. As I type this thread has one reply and 54 views. Given the small size of Bull, one can only hope all would catch and release. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
smallmouthjoe Posted September 27, 2009 Author Posted September 27, 2009 I realize this is a real concern and I wont be posting on Bull Creek or any other small creek anymore. If I do I'll steal a page from Creek Wader and not give the name or location.
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 I think that's a good idea. A report that you had a good day in Taney county should be enough for most fishermen. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
RSBreth Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Yeah, it's small enough where only a couple of us are enough pressure.
