Right now I have a 1/4 chartreuse buzzbait, red crankbait, fluke, and a chomper tied on. Catch and Release of course. Thanks Those could all work. During the summer months, I always start with a smaller spinnerbait, a fluke, and a WTD lure like a Sammy. Make sure you try some kind of dog. You may not change lures all day. If the leaves are falling you can forget that idea though. If they're not hitting your chomper, try a small hair jig the color of the stream bottom or a 4" or 5" Senko. Good luck!

I have seen several post about Sammy's....might need to stop and pick one up this weekend. Have never tried a hair jig either. Any color preference on a Sammy? Thanks for your post. Any color preference on a Sammy? Thanks for your post. If the water is clear, go with something lighter colored and natural looking. If the water is stained or the sky is overcast, I might try something a little darker. With a reaction bait like a Sammy, I'm not TOO concerned about color, as long as it is visible to the fish and looks like something that lives in the area. I love a Sammy this time of year until the leaves make it impossible to use.

Looking forward to trying this lure. I will let you know how it works. You ain't a live'n if your not a fish'n

Members BobK Posted September 28, 2009 Author Members Posted September 28, 2009 Those sound just about perfect. Good luck! Well it was a tuff several days with the rain putting a damper on things. Fished Wednesday before the heavy rains and did fairly well with my new best friend Sammy 100. Second cast with it and a 3.5 lb largemouth. Caught several more on it before the rain started up again. Thursday rained all day...sat around and watched the river muddy up. Friday ended up trout fishing in St. James with the river up and muddy. Saturday fish the river but with the chocolate water you had to put the chomper right in front of their face to get any takers. Still had a great time with my friends even though the fishing was just ok. You ain't a live'n if your not a fish'n
creek wader Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Bob, Glad you had a good time. It's a shame it rained. It hasn't rained for quite sometime. It figures. Thanks for giving us a follow up. ... wader wader

I go out with the goal of catching one quality fish per trip, and he would definitely qualify. Too bad he wasn't a smallie, but a nice fish anyway. Sammies are good.
Members BobK Posted September 30, 2009 Author Members Posted September 30, 2009 Your right...the 3.5 lb largemouth was a nice fish. Caught several more on it but that one was my biggest. It's been a while since I had thrown a top water bait besides a buzzbait but was pleasantly surprised how well the Sammy worked. I would love to get out on the river one more time this fall.....just need to figure out something around all of the kids activities. I know that largemouth is lurking in the water waiting to be caught again. You ain't a live'n if your not a fish'n
