denjac Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Started at daylight throwing the spook. Had two 15 inch smallies in 30 minutes. then it got tougher, lots of short ky. What up with that, when the spots move in do the smallies say there goes the neighborhood and leave? Had to back off , boat in 25-30ft throwing the jig. Only short fish bit. Had a nice 3+ black on the spook up tight to some shallow bushes. thought it would be really good today, heavy cloud cover, nice breeze. Fished from point 7 to point 2 all the same results short short short. It was still a great day to be fishing, back to the oh grind. Bill thats a date when I get back down. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. rps Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I fished a spook as well. And a finesse worm on a jig head. Caught 10 or 11. Bet I could have filled a mason jar with them. Seriously, the big fish was at least 12 inches. Around 1:00, a small school of whites came up and I managed two keepers to avoid an embarassment. Trolling was somewhat better. I lost a keeper walleye at the boat when my net man had a spastic attack. Then I arranged a long distance release when one I hooked hung in a tree top. By the time I got loose, so was he. I finally caught and landed a keeper walleye. I went in after that to celebrate. The walleye were 22-23 feet deep in tree tops on rocky 45 degree outside bend banks. In reality, for the first trip in two weeks, I was very happy. Plus, tomorrow we'll have fishburgers!
troutgnat Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Gentlemen, I as well caught a lot of shorts yesterday around the Indian Point area. Though, interestingly enough my first and last smallmouth of the day were both on a spook and close to 3lb each. Both on main lake points with a little wind, one at day break and the other at dusk.
