Members jcmojo Posted April 22, 2006 Members Posted April 22, 2006 Mister Administrator, I am wondering about the possibility of leaving a topic on the Buy-Sell-Trade forum for a set amount of time. I posted my boat for sale yesterday, and it has already been bumped into the old category. I doubt if too many folks got a chance to view it. I am not making this forum my primary venue for selling this rig, as I will do quite a bit of advertizing in the news media, but I thought it would be nice to put it on this forum as it could be the perfect boat for one of the members at a very resonable price. Would it be possible to set it up where you could only do replies and not new topics. That way someone, inadvertently and unintentionly, would not bump a brand new listing off. I don't know if this would work or not. Thanks for your attention to this matter. JDKehr (jcmojo)
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 22, 2006 Root Admin Posted April 22, 2006 Not sure what you mean... I just checked the listing and you're #2 from the top. Your listing hasn't been moved to another forum- not sure what you mean by "bumped". If you mean to ask if you or I could "pin" your topic to the top, I would have to pin everyone's and then the same thing would happen... the newest pinned topic would move the old ones down. Please clarify. I do want to help if I can.
Members jcmojo Posted April 22, 2006 Author Members Posted April 22, 2006 Phil, Maybe I don't know how to use the forum properly. When I sign on and scroll down thru all the forums all I see for each forum is: Date: date topic was entered In: topic's name By: last user to reply In order for me to see my topic I have to go into next oldest. I was aware that I can do this. This must be what you mean when you say I'm #2 from the top? This forum is the first one I have belonged to and my limited experience shows. I think I know what you are saying. You don't have to reply to this. Thanks for your trouble. JDKehr
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 22, 2006 Root Admin Posted April 22, 2006 There are alot of ways to view the forum- maybe too many. I'm still learning myself. When you look at the buy-sell-trade forum, do you open here? http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showforum=23 or someplace else?
Members jcmojo Posted April 23, 2006 Author Members Posted April 23, 2006 Phil, I wasn't seeing the trees for looking at the forest. I have been opening only as: http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?act=idx It's like a whole new world. I will enjoy the forum even more now, although I have been enjoying it a bunch already. Thanks for taking the time to research my problem. Doug
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 23, 2006 Root Admin Posted April 23, 2006 Here's another pointer. Every time I go on the forum (http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/)I hit the 'View New Posts' link located at the top right bar of each page. This brings up all the new posts since my last visit. If I've read all the posts, I hit 'Your topics - Mark all forums as read and return to index' link centered on the blue bar at the top of the first forum text box. This clears the board for me for the next time I visit.
Members jcmojo Posted April 24, 2006 Author Members Posted April 24, 2006 Phil, That is a good tip. Saves lots of looking time. I like it, and I'll use it. Thanks again. Doug
