Are they done? Cool front moved them off for a delay? Everything caught the last several days have been mainly males close to the banks with some females with eggs. Haven't talked to anyone who has caught many spawned out sows. Just wanted to get an opinion overall of the season for everyone. Break it down to areas of the lake, ie Kings, James, Long...

Bittle Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I fished last tuesday and wednesday with a total of 13 keepers in two hard days of fishing. Tuesday morning went to long creek area and caught 2 keepers. Both females still had their eggs. That evening my dad and myself went to james river arm and ended up with seven keepers between the both of us. Both males and females and none of them had spawned yet either. Wednesday morning went back up the james river arm. I put in at daylight and pulled out at noon with 4 keepers. Both male and females, still none had spawned yet. Wednesday evening went back up the James with my brother caught some short ones but nothing that would keep. I think the fish are confused about the spawn. I'm not sure if they are or aren't spawning but it seems that they are having trouble finding spots to spawn or because of the low water they are delayed for some reason. Not sure but I wish they would turn on and spawn or we will be hurting a couple years from now. I'm not sure about the white bass either. I haven't caught any yet this year but I'm not sure if they have moved up the river to spawn yet or if they are still holding back as well. My 2 cents, and its worth about as much. Bittle

My question is will a crappie- or any fish- that's used to spawning in say 60 degrees- go ahead and spawn if the surface/bank water temp shoots to 70? Which it has in many places. That's really what I wanted to hear- thanks for the comment. Any others?
