Members jgentile Posted September 26, 2009 Members Posted September 26, 2009 Never mind actually.... Just called the park office, and the guy said Meramec is back down and fishing well right now.... I guess I might be headed that way after all. Nice to hear this information. As of a few minutes ago the USGS charts showed the discharge rate at just under 900 CFS and falling fast. I'm headed to the park tomorrow and will wade on down towards the piles. Don't shoot me, I'll be the guy with the spinning rig. Joe

ozark trout fisher Posted September 27, 2009 Author Posted September 27, 2009 Will do. Just one more question to anyone who may know the answer.... If I was to wade the Meramec upstream from the spring branch, what kind of fishing would I find? I realize it would be more warmwater species, but that's just fine with me. Any nice smallmouth or trout to be caught up there? Just in case I'm bringing my smallmouth tackle box along with trout gear. My 5-weight rod was broken today , so it'll be spin-fishing tomorrow. Any smallmouth or largemouth bass caught up there will be released by the way..... I might try to gather up a trout dinner of dumb stockies in the park, but I'll release resident trout and bass.

OTF, Don't hold me to this, but I don't think there are many trout above Meramec Spring. There are smallies there, though. So if you want to get away from the crowds, you could wade above the park or hit the Huzzah or Courtois. I know that's where I'd be if I wasn't floating. Report back. Wish I could go tomorrow.

I've been wanting to catch both smallmouth bass and trout, and this plan should kill two birds with one stone if everything goes right................... I will probably bring my kayak to fish above the park with, and maybe a bit below. Unfortunately, I can't use soft plastics for bass in that stretch, so I'll be limited to crankbaits, spinners, topwater, etc. Oh well. If there's still time at the end of the day, I might try a few casts in the Bourbeuse at Union as well, because its right on the way home. Hopefully I'll have some nice fish to report. I doubt it though.

I was jealous, even after about 12 hours of fishing. So addicted.
eric1978 Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 What do you guys think this rain will do to the river today? I'll be on an upper stretch by late morning. Any predictions? It looks like a big storm will blow through pretty quick, then dry up. Anyone know?
