ozark trout fisher Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 This Saturday September 26th, the missouri smallmouth alliance will be holding a spotted bass roundup on the bourbeuse, here are the details. The 2009 Spotted Bass Round-up & Fish Fry will take place on Saturday, September 26th, on the beautiful Bourbeuse River. Join us as we help clean out the invasive Spotted bass from the Bourbeuse and put them in the fryer! The MDC has a special regulation for spots on the Bourbeuse of 12 fish with NO LENGTH LIMIT. Fish all day Saturday; but be sure to get back to Devils Back by 5pm for the weigh-in and fish fry. Optional pool: $5 per person pool for the biggest stringer of spots! The MSA will provide the fish fryer, hush puppies and salad . You should bring drinks and any side dishes. Make your camping/rental arrangements with Devils Back Floats, 5103 Noser Mill Rd., Leslie, MO 63056, by calling Dolores Swoboda at 573- 484-3231. If you plan to attend, please contact Steve Harrison at (636) 220-6258 or srharrison@charter.net How do you identify a Spot? Well, compared to a Largemouth, which they resemble, Spotted Bass have: 1. An upper jaw which doesn’t extend past its eye. 2. Rows of dark spots below its lateral line 3. Cheek scales which are smaller than the rest of its scales. 4. It tongue has a rough patch 5. It’s dorsal fin is well connected compared to a Largemouth’s dorsal fin To those of you who aren't members yet, it will give you a chance to meet other like minded anglers who enjoy fishing for smallies, and eating some spots! Good luck. I hope you clean out some spots.... I would go, but I'm gonna be trout fishing down at Maramec on Saturday....
eric1978 Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I'm also busy but I think this is great and greatly needed on the Bourbeuse. They should have one of these once a month. They should also occasionally hold a gigger fry...that would help, too.

I've taken almost 50 out so far this month, still counting.....................................
KCRIVERRAT Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 If you're passionate about your smallies, show up for the so called clean up of spots. In my mind, they ain't invasive. They're becoming native. Come on down to where the real fishing for smallmouth is! I spend my money to get there! HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS

There used to be "real" smallmouth fishing in the Bourbeuse until the spots showed up.
ozark trout fisher Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Any reports on how it went? I didn't go to the roundup... But I drove over the Bourbeuse today, and it was high and muddy... I bet fishing was tough this weekend.
hank franklin Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 It was cancelled, apparently. Buddy went anyway, said he caught a few upstream. I was busy. I might go out next weekend and take this spotted bass problem into my own hands.
eric1978 Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 A buddy and I took out a couple dozen last weekend. Only a couple hundred thousand left to go...
