FishinCricket Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I wouldn't be able to provide you with much information regarding the campgrounds at BSSP. I live so close that I have never camped there.. lol Sorry bout that. I have some really good friends and customers that own campgrounds down there (Sand Springs Resort, NRO, One Eyed Willies, Fort Bennett (might be wrong on the names).. But I wouldn't know who to suggest that might have openings... I accidentally made it to Maramec on derby day one time. I won't ever make that mistake again. I honestly believe more fished were snagged than caught. It kinda made me want to throw up... What satisfaction could a person possibly get from snagging a fish? One guy even walked up to me and bragged about catching them on a "treble hooked wire nymph". I told him it was illegal, but he didn't seem to care. Man, don't let it get to you so bad... What can you do? Try the serenity prayer, eh? Smile at em, tell em what they are doing is illegal, and go on.... Or: Stop for a moment and tell them a story about an amazing lunker and how you sight fished it for 20 minutes... Make the story sizzle, make them wanna try it for themselves. I used to be one of those kids snagging suckers on the river.. Then one of the (apparently rare) happy go lucky fly guys stopped and took the time to actually put me on a lunker and show me how to catch him (with my treble hooked rapala teeny craw that I still use).. Didn't take the guy but about 5 minutes and I was hooked for life. Later other fisherman have helped me to understand what being a good steward of the fish and the fishery really means, but it all started with that last day of stringing up massive amounts of goggleye and snagging suckers and the one guy who, instead of chewing me out (which many others had done) took the time and effort to continue the art of being a good steward of the river systems and the fishery. PS: Don't take my rant personally, you seem like a nice person with very good intentions, a good steward of our streams. I look forward to fishing along side you, I just wanna know it's ok to bust out the powerbait if I have to.. lol cricket.c21.com
Members kux99 Posted September 29, 2009 Author Members Posted September 29, 2009 My buddy wants to try his luck at the derby, so looks like we will be down there that weekend. Is the water still high or is it starting to go back down. I am hoping it will return to somewhat normal by the time we arrive. I would really like to do some dry fly/terrestrial fishing. Nothing beats a top water take!

I can't remember the last trout park trip I didn't at least take it along for trip insurance......... You're probably right its no the right thing to just tell them its illegal and walk away... But frankly I'm not good enough of a lunker fisherman to show anyone else... If I tried to teach them, they'd probly go right back to snagging
