Ealy Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I took a buddy up today and put in at Cedar Ridge. We started off on main lake points with jigs. We boated a dozen or so in the first 30 minutes. No keeps. Ran up almost to Aldrich and pitched a big worm and shallow cranked. 1 keeper and another dozen or so shorts. Back to the main lake fighting wind with a couple of shorts on various baits. Moved to the non windy side of the lake for some relief. Another dozen or so on a Trick worms and finesse worms with another good keeper. A tough day for keepers, but plenty of action with an all day bite. September generally sucks with October being a close second for me. It was definitely a finesse fishing day with no clouds and a post frontal situation.
Dutch Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I am off Monday and Tuesday so I'm going one or both of those days. With this front coming in tonight and clear skies ahead I'm definitely going to tie on the jigs and plastic maybe even a spoon.
Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 It's gotten tough over the past few days. My trip Sat was really tough. Didn't catch much. Had some fish on a 200 bandit, but they were few and far between. Not like normal on Stockton. I think the weather has things messed up. I didn't make it past twin bridges sat, we fished north all day. Friday we stayed south and did better on crankbaits and spinnerbaits. It should get better soon. The water is cooling off and the fish should start biting better this week. I think the weather is supposed to be a little more normal after the cold front tonight. Wish I could give you some better info. Members kcbear Posted September 28, 2009 Members Posted September 28, 2009 New to forum- also new to Stockton Lake. Began fishing there in July. Last week I fished Sunday eve., Monday (before the storms) Tuesday, and Wed. morning. Caught at least twenty five LM, 6 smallies. My partner caught a ton of bluegill, and one nice 20 inch walleye. Three of my smallies were keeper size, with the largest just over 18 inches. All of my bass came on chug bugs, and buzz baits, cause that is how I love to fish. The walleye and gills were on a crappie jig. Same two guys fished yesterday-- nearly eight hours from 7am on-- 8 bites, two hook ups and none boated!! 5 bites and both hook ups were on top water. Great day fishing, bad day catching-- but I'll tell you all now- I am already planning my next trip down!!
Members showmebassin Posted September 28, 2009 Members Posted September 28, 2009 Fished Saturday and Sunday with my dad. Saturday was definitely better with the cloud cover. Saturday we caught about 30 LM and 4 SM all up really shallow. We fished the north end of the lake and caught all of them on jigs or worms. The 3 best fish(all over 4 lbs) were in 2 ft of water in pockets adjacent to secondary points. Sunday we fished a couple of spots on the South end and maybe caught 10 in the 4 hours we were out, and they were all in 8-10 ft of water. darn blue bird skies. Guest csfishinfool Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Tough times seem to be gone today. With the water temp starting out in the high sixties the bite for me really picked up. Caught just as many shorts as I mentioned before but this time threw in four keepers the smallest being three and half, and the biggest being five plus. Lost one about five that would have gave us a five fish limit right at Twenty pounds. Great day on Stockton, also caught a white bass that was over three!!! Best baits were topwater in the moring and a jig and crankbait later in the day.
binman Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Must have been the front moving in they are there just got to find them I have noticed the SB bite starting to gradually pick up with this storm blowing through who knows what they will do Brandon Inman
Members Frost1920 Posted October 1, 2009 Author Members Posted October 1, 2009 I've only been once since I started this thread, and that was on Tuesday. We had about the same results as always but this time Ill blame the post front conditions. We caught maybe 7 fish in 3 hours with 1 keeper LM. My brother was skunked for all of the 3 hours until the last 10 mins when he pulled in a 16 or so inch Smallie. Also in the same spot, about 30 seconds later, I hooked into a monster. I never felt a bite, just a lightness or a little pressure. Anyone that fishes soft plastic knows what it feels like. Its the best feeling in the world. I reel down and give her a good one and it felt like a log!! What a feeling! My rod was about doubled over and that fish took off! As soon as I set the hook, I said "Get the net". This felt like the biggest fish I'd ever had on. My line went flying to the left, down the lake and just like that she was gone. I sat down (after some choice words)but still with a big smile and we called it a day. Ill never know what it was. My mind keeps showing me pictures of a 8lb SM but maybe it was just a catfish or something. Anyway, Ill hook up with her someday. I just wanted to say thank you to the people that sent me private messages with some really awesome pointers and areas to focus on with what baits. It didn't pay off this week, but it definitely added some ammo to my arsenal.

Caught about 30 bass with the biggest five weighing about 13 pounds. Once again lost a fish that was over six on the old crank bait ( Im just getting these out of the way before it counts ) Also had two walleyes, one being about 18 inches around three pounds and the other being around six pounds!! Back to back cast with the crank bait. This lake is starting to turn it up a notch once again! Same topwater bite as last time, there just killing it . Also had five whites that made the dinner plate, all of them were takin out of dirty water up the Litttle Sac side. Get shallow and burn up lots of water and it will pay off.
Members Frost1920 Posted October 5, 2009 Author Members Posted October 5, 2009 I've come to the conclusion that everyone that posts they are catching fish is full of crap. (just kidding..........sort of). I've thrown cranks in dirty water till my arm was sore. I've cranked in clear water. I've spooked 'em and pop'd em and thrown spinnerbaits at em. How can you screw up a plug or a spinner? I just don't get it. I caught 7 fish yesterday and 3 today. I threw some flukes, jig'n'craws, spinners, cranks, senkos, pointer 100's, bandit 200's, deep divers, t-rigged worms of all colors, and grubs. I've been thought the tacklebox and fished out to about 20ft. Today we worked shoreline of all kinds and I basically threw cranks and jigs all day. I tried to cover the first 8 ft and also get to the fish holding tight to the bottom or standing timber. NADA. All the guys I talked to at the ramp....same thing. 10%/90% maybe. You think this has discouraged me? No way. If anything, these tough days just make me want to come back and redeem myself and encourage my addiction. I just thought I'd share my fishing trips with everyone and vent some frustrations too. I'll be back a few times this week and fully expect to post pics of some huge fish...........
