I am heading down to fish Thursday night, Friday and Saturday morning. I was curious if the browns run up stream like they do in Taney and if so, how far and where they might hold? Any hot patterns? Also, if anyone is going to be arround say hi. I usually wear a BPS hat.

There is a definite brown trout run on the Current, although I doubt if its as defined as in the tailwaters. I'm not sure if it has started yet, but when it does there will be an unusually high concentration of large browns from the lower end of the park to Tan Vat.

My fishing bud caught a 16", fat brown, #16 or #18 red tungsten midge on Sunday. He said that white midges also worked. Nothing real big yet, unless they're wary. Water was up a little and slightly off-color, good conditions.

The fish may have been a little off last weekend because MDC shocked it last week...The browns were already coloring up and I saw more fish above Ashley than below a couple weeks ago. Cheers.

IMO,

After reading what Gavin just wrote keep an eye out for dead fish and the ones you do catch some will have fins clipped...sad to say the least.

I feel the real big ones hold pretty much in the holes they are in year round...some smaller ones (20' or less ) may move up some but as otf said IMO it's not nearly as defined as on impounded waters such as Taney

Fished in the park the weekend of the trout tournament, the details of which I will not get into. My friend and I caught several browns from the lower stretches of the park on dry-dropper combos. Biggest fish landed was 17x12", a little over 3 lbs. Saw some that were at least 22", maybe bigger. One was a big male with red sides, but he was thoroughly spooked from almost being stepped on by the group in front of us. Hot fly for me was the #14 Copper John under a Stimulator.

Good to hear you did well, because I got my butt kicked. Caught 6 fish I think of Friday from Tan Vat to Baptist. 2 were about 6 inches, 1 about 8, 2 about 12, and 1 brown about 15. Just couldn't figure them out. Threw everything I had. I did break one off that felt like a nice fish, but never saw him so . . .

I hear you. I fished probably the same stretches you did a few weeks ago and got 1 12" brown. Two spin fisherman came up to me at the Tan Vat riffle and one threw in a small crankbait, sticking a nice 16" brown about 10 ft. above me. Hey said, "I've been doing this all day." Nothing against spin fishermen, more power to him, but I couldn't get anything on that day.
